Sam Hall, a former war correspondent, author, on-screen reporter for ITN’s News at Ten and inveterate traveller, erupted onto the art scene in 2004, having painted seriously only since his retirement two years previously. Apart from occasional local life and portrait classes, he has had no formal training. This was a conscious decision. He believes that it is vital to preserve his own uniqueness and develop according to his own instincts rather than follow a pre-determined path dictated by art colleges. He works from his own studio in Dorking, Surrey in the United Kingdom and concentrates mainly on representative themes. He also paints a separate series of conceptual paintings that elicits intense feelings of depth, time and space, striking a chord with the innermost desires of most of us to escape the stress of everyday life and be transported to a world of tranquillity, infinite stillness and peace.
