Wonderful drawing by Lucien Jonas the WWI illustrator. This image depicts a soldier running with his bayonette. A small portrait in watercolor is used.Great emotion in the soldiers face. The frame is a beautiful art nouveau style with a double mat. Top mat is a gun metal gray, bottom mat is black. The work is signed and has other writing in French. Total size is 23 1/2 x 27 inches.Lucien Jonas was one of the more prolific Great War illustrators. A gifted and talented artist, he was mobilized in December of 1914 and in February of 1915 was offically accredited as 'military painter secunded to the Musée de l'Armée' in Paris. During the war he travelled extensively along all sections of the front lines and produced thousands of drawings, oil paintings, charcoals, sketches and illustrations of all kinds.
