ANATOMY OF EMEREM’S POWER
Billed to close on September 6, the exhibition of paintings by Aba-based painter, Mbonu Christopher Emerem opened four hours late on August 23 after it dawned on the organizers that the special guest of honour, Chief Raymond Dokpesi would not make it after all.
Even before the opening day, the artist had faced another problem. Emerem had brought an unusually large reportoire but the exhibition venue could only accommodate 57 of his 122 collection of paintings.
"Solidarity with Humanity", as Emerem titled his show, paraded paintings in water colour. But even before the viewer could enter the hall, he is confronted by six middle arts posters.
The commercial art posters show a naturalistic bent on the part of the artist. These tend to give away the business man behind the artist who studied Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a degree in 1983.
